What is ESA InCubed?
InCubed (Investing in Industrial Innovation) is ESA's co-investment programme for commercial Earth observation, run from ESA's Φ-lab/ESRIN ecosystem. ESA co-funds the development of commercially-driven EO products and services — the company proposes the product, co-finances its share, and keeps commercial exploitation. Submissions are rolling rather than deadline-based.
How it works
A company submits an outline proposal describing the product, market and requested co-funding. After iteration with the InCubed team it becomes a full proposal and, if approved, an ESA contract. Because the programme is business-case-first, evaluation weighs commercial credibility as much as technical novelty.
For EO startups, InCubed is one of the most founder-shaped ESA instruments: rolling submission (no deadline sprint), co-investment logic familiar to investors, and ESA validation that de-risks later private rounds.
